Day 21-46 - The Results

Why am I combining days 21-46? Well basically, I can't think of anything else to post about HCG that would be valuable and I don't want to make posts that aren't of any quality. So I'm just combining the rest of the days so you can see my HCG results. If I think of something later that would be of value, I'll post it.

To sum things up... My starting weight was 245.5. My ending weight is 203. That is a total weight loss of 42.5 lbs under the HCG diet. I'm calling it a huge success. I feel better, look better, and it has changed the way I eat. The hard part now is keeping it off, but the desire for crappy foods is gone.

So that's it. If you would like to view my previous posts, I've linked them all below. Thank you for reading. Good luck with your own HCG experience!

Day 20 - How to Make Hot Green Tea

Today's weight: 229.8 lbs

Drinking herbal tea is basically a requirement while on the HCG diet. Not only is it good for you (even when not on the diet) but it is also a nice break from just plain water. Getting good tea is pretty easy and cheap. I recommend going to your local grocery store and buying a few variety packs of tea. Find what your favorites are from the variety pack and then you'll know which ones you want to drink all the time. If you can find a local tea shop that is even better. Fresh loose leaf tea is the best!

Green tea is the most important to drink, so I'm going to cover how to make the perfect cup. Many people make the simple mistake of brewing the tea too hot, making it bitter. So follow these steps and you'll enjoy your bitter-less tea:

1) Boil your water. If you don't have a tea kettle, no big deal.

2) Once your water is boiling or your tea kettle is whistling, turn the heat off. Your water will be about 100-93 C. This is TOO HOT to brew right away and what makes green tea bitter!

3) Let your water sit for about 3-4 minutes. We want to the temperature to go down to 70 C or 175 F.

4) Add your hot water to your tea, let it brew for 2 minutes.

5) Enjoy!

Adding Truvia to your tea will sweeten it up. Drink all the green tea you want!

Day 19 - HCG Forum

Today's weight: 231.6

I've made a little forum so people can ask questions and share their HCG stories. You can check it out by clicking the new link above, HCG Forum, or by clicking here.

Today's post will be a short one because I've spent the better half of the day finalizing the HCG Mixing video and getting the forum setup. I just wanted to plug those two things today. The forum will be empty/dead for a bit until more traffic comes, but keep an eye on it.

The last three days I've averaged over 1 pound lost everyday! My body feels like it is in this weight loss mode now and I have no doubt it will stay this way until I'm finished with the HCG.

Day 18 - HCG Mixing, Part 2: Mixing

Today's weight: 232.7 lbs

Mixing for me was pretty stressful my first time.  I've never handled any sort of medical equipment and didn't want to mess up.  I could potentially screw up this first batch of HCG and waste a bunch of money in the process.  If you're having those same worries, I'm here to tell you it will be fine.  To make life easy I'm going to break down mixing into steps.  If you follow these steps you should have no problem.  Before we proceed, make sure you know how much you want to mix and that you're all prepared!

Video is after all steps.

Step 1 - Clean!
First, wash your hands.  Wipe down the area you will be working on, I just use 409 and some paper towels.  To be on the safe side, wipe down the area you'll be working on with one of your sterile wipes.  Use a new sterile wipe and clean off the tops of all your vials.

Step 2 - Open your HCG.
(Only if you have an ampule of HCG.  If you have a vial, skip this step)
Use a paper towel and break open the ampule.  If the glass shatters, no big deal, just clean it up.  If some glass gets inside the ampule, still no big deal.  No glass should be small enough to fit inside the needle.  If you break the ampule in one swift strong movement you shouldn't have a problem.

Step 3 - Mix the HCG.
Extract 1cc(ml) of Bacteriostatic water and mix it with the HCG.  The freeze dried HCG should instantly mix with the water and become 100% liquid.  If it doesn't, just roll the bottle of HCG inbetween your fingers a few seconds.

Step 4 - Extract the HCG.
Extract the now liquid HCG and put it inside your empty vial.  This might take a few times to get it all.  If you're unsure if you got all of the HCG, feel free to add another 1cc of water into the HCG ampule and extract it again.  Just keep track of how much water you've used.  In the video below we did it twice (1cc each) just to make sure we extracted all of the HCG.

Step 5 - Add more water.
We've already made 2cc of HCG (if you used more/less that is ok, just keep track of it).  All that is left to do is add the rest of the water to the HCG solution.  For me, I'm making a 175iu daily solution, so I need a total of 14.25cc of water.  I've already used the 2cc, so I just need to add 12.25cc more.  If you're unsure of how much solution to make, read this post carefully.

This last step might take a few trips depending on how big your syringe is.  If you followed my advice and got a bigger syringe, you should only need to extract water once.  If you have a smaller syringe (like a 3cc syringe) you'll have to do it multiple times.  Once you've added all the water, you're done!

One important note: You need to keep your vials properly pressurized.  Your empty vial currently has 0 pressure.  If you add 1cc of water into the vial, it now has 1cc of pressure.  Simple math, right?  So you need to subtract whatever you are putting in.  For example, say I am going to take 13cc of water from my water vial and put that into my empty vial.  First, I need to fill my syringe with 13cc of air.  Then, after I insert the needle into the Bacteriostatic water vial, I push the 13cc of air into it.  This gives the water vial 13cc of pressure.  But now I'll extract 13cc of water, which now gives the water vial 0 pressure.  I then put the 13cc of water into my empty vial, which started at 0 pressure, but now has 13cc of water in it, giving it 13cc of pressure.  Once all the water is in the vial, I extract 13cc of air from the vial, balancing it back to 0 pressure.

You don't need to keep a vial at 0 pressure, but don't make it have a lot of pressure.  I generally keep my HCG vial with a bit of pressure just so it is easier to extract.  If this is confusing, watching the video will probably help.

So here is the video demonstrating how to mix HCG:

Day 17 - HCG Mixing, Part 1: Preparation & How Much to Mix

Today's weight: 234.1 lbs

Time to tackle mixing.  This was the one of the hardest things to find decent information on.  I had a lot of questions and couldn't find any real clear answers.  So I'm hoping to solve that problem.  HCG Mixing will be broken up into a few different posts because there is a lot to cover and I don't want to cram it all into a single post.

Preparation:

Prep is easy, just make sure you have all the materials you need and be in a sterile place to mix.  I mix on my kitchen table after I've completely cleaned it and used sterile wipes to sterilize it.  Here is the check list of materials you will need.  If you're not sure where to buy these materials, check out yesterday's post: Where to Buy HCG Supplies.
  • HCG
  • Vial
  • Bacteriostatic water
  • Sterile wipes
  • A big (20-30ml) syringe for easier mixing (optional)
Your HCG will come with a solution to mix it with.  Throw this away!  Do not use this solution with your HCG, this is the wrong stuff.  In the picture below, the HCG is on the left, the solution that you do not use is on the right.

Your vial should be at least 20ml, sterile, and have a rubber stopper at the top.

Have your Bacteriostatic water ready to go.  Go ahead and remove the plastic cap off the top, it'll have a rubber stopper under it, just like your vial's rubber stopper.

Have a few sterile wipes ready to go.  You'll need one to sterilize the top of your HCG (if it came in a vial), vial, and water.  You'll also need a few to sterilize the area you're working on.

The last item you'll need is the syringe/needle you'll use to mix everything.  As I mentioned before, it is recommended to pay a few extra dollars and get a bigger syringe because it will make mixing a lot easier.  But you can still use a 3ml syringe (if you're using them for injections.  If you're using the 1ml or 1/2ml syringes, good luck!) for the mixing, it will just take longer.

How Much to Mix:

This is probably one of the most important questions you'll ask yourself.  The first HCG guide by Dr. Simeons says to take a 125iu dosage of HCG daily, but most people take more than that.  Personally, I take a 175iu dosage and it has worked great for me.  I've heard a lot of people start at 150iu and either go up or down depending on how they feel.  What you decide to take is up to you.

Once you know what your daily HCG dosage will be, use the following chart to figure out how much Bacteriostatic water you'll be mixing.

A few notes:
iu = International Units.  This will be how much HCG you get and how much HCG you want to give yourself on a daily basis.  For example, I give myself a 175iu dosage of HCG.

cc = Cubic Centimeters.  1cc = 1ml.  Just remember that cc and ml are the same thing.  On your syringe, if it says it is a 3ml syringe, it also means it is a 3cc syringe.  Your daily dose is 1/2cc, which is also 1/2ml.  If your syringe says 3ml and your dosage is 1/2cc, you'll fill the syringe to 1/2ml.

Before you start your mixing it is very important to know exactly how much water you'll be mixing with your HCG.  For example...

I have 5,000iu of HCG.  I want to take a daily dosage of 175iu.  Looking at the above chart, I will be mixing a total of 14.25cc of water with my HCG.  This will give me my 175iu daily dosage (1/2cc) of HCG for 28.5 days.  It is simple math when you think about it.  You will have a total of 14.25cc, divide this by .5cc and the result is 28.5 days.

If you aren't sure how much to mix, just look at how much iu your HCG is (it will say on the box) and how much of a daily dosage you want.  The math is already done for you when using the above chart.

With this all figured out, you should be ready to start the mixing.  That will be covered in tomorrow's post.  I'll also have a video for you too!

Day 16 - Where to Buy HCG Supplies

Today's weight: 235.0 lbs

Now that you know where to buy your HCG, you need to know where to buy the rest of the supplies you'll need.  You have a two options:

Option 1: Buy a "mixing & injection kit."  These are being sold on many different websites that mention anything HCG.  A mixing kit can get a little pricey depending on where you buy them, I've seen them range from $73 to $48 (for a 45 day injection kit).  The advantage of buying one of these kits is that you'll get all the materials you need for your HCG diet.  This might not sound like a big deal, but if you buy everything yourself you have to deal with multiple vendors, so you're paying a bit extra for the convenience.  Personally, I like to save what money I can, so I did not buy one of these kits and I don't regret it at all.  However, Elicea and I will be selling these kits when the HCG website is complete for a much cheaper price with a very thin profit margin (enough to cover our hosting fees).

Here is what a general kit will include and what you'll need to do the HCG diet:

Option 2: Buy everything yourself.  This is what I did and what I recommend doing because it will save you money.  It will take a bit more planning and patience, but should be worth it.  And lucky for you I've already done the work and found sources for all materials needed (which I might add was quite a pain).  The only real problem with this option is that the syringes/needles you buy will be in bulk (a box of 100), but this is still much cheaper than the alternative.  So here is the list with links:
  • Sterile vials: ResearchSupply.net - Make sure you get the 20ml vials and order enough to cover your entire diet.  For two people taking a 175iu daily dose on the 45 day plan, I needed 3 vials.  They're very cheap, so it is better to have more than come up short while on your diet.
  • Syringes/Needles for daily injections: AllegroMedical.com - This website is great, you can buy a lot of medical supplies here for an extremely cheap price.  There is a big variety of syringes/needles, so make sure you know what you need before you buy a box.
  • Bigger Syringes for easier mixing (optional): AllegroMedical.com - Same source as above.  This is optional because it will make life easier, but will cost a bit extra.  I bought three of the 20ml syringes and a box of only needles to go with them (yes, overkill on the needles, but they're still cheap).  The only purpose of these is to make mixing easier, so they're optional.
  • Sterile wipes: AllegroMedical.com - Again, same source as the previous two.  You'll need these every time you do an injection and mix, so just about everyday.  We use three a day, one to sterilize the vial and one on each of our arms.
  • Bacteriostatic water: Evotrition.com - This water is used to make the HCG solution. This website is by far the cheapest I found and it arrived in about a week.
As you can see, we have 3 sources for the HCG supplies.  Add 1 more for the actual HCG and you're getting everything from 4 sources.  Finding all of them for a low price was quite a challenge and I can understand why people would just buy an overpriced HCG kit.  The choice is yours.

Today's menu was very simple again, chicken and radishes for both lunch and dinner.  Yum!

Day 15 - One Third Done

Today's weight: 235.8

Elicea and I took some pictures and video of mixing and injecting today.  I'll have them posted in the next couple of days.  For today's subject I'll just talk about what I think of the HCG diet now that I'm one third of the way finished.

I have to say it feels great losing the weight and actually seeing the results.  I've mentioned this before, but I was pretty skeptical if the HCG would actually work or not.  What surprised me the most is how little my appetite is, I was expecting myself to be much hungrier.  But it is important for me to mention here that while I'm not physically hungry, I still want to eat.  It is just a bad habit that is hard to break.  Elicea always tells me "out of sight, out of mind," and this is so true.  Having any snacks laying around, or anything that looks good, is just a bad idea.  It makes it very hard not to cheat.  I've cheated a few times while on the HCG diet and it really screws things up.  Doing the HCG diet takes real commitment, but it isn't hard.  It is just easy to give in to temptation and cheat.

To sum things up, I'm happy with the results and will really stay focused on not cheating anymore.  The HCG combined with the VLCD really works and I feel it is worth the investment.

Day 14 - Where to Buy HCG

Today's weight: 236.4 lbs

One of the most important things about the HCG diet is actually having the HCG!  So where can you buy HCG?  You have a two options:

The first option is to go to a local clinic that does HCG.  This is how I first heard about HCG about a year ago.  My fiance, Elicea, heard an ad on the radio and wanted to learn more.  I went with her to an orientation (I was the only guy too!) and heard about it from the two doctors that ran the clinic.  They are plastic surgeons and were having very good results with the HCG diet.  It was a good presentation, but the price was just too high.  For a 23 injection treatment it was $400 and for the 40 injection treatment it was $480!  The only benefit to this option is that you are getting the injections from real doctors.  But I really don't think it is worth the money, and as you know, this is not how I'm doing my HCG experience.

The second option is what I'm doing and probably the reason you're reading this.  Buy your HCG online.  You can't get HCG without a prescription, but if you buy it online you just fill out a little form and an overseas doctor prescribes it for you.  The HCG you order comes from another country, but it is still HCG.  If you're at all skeptical just remember, everyone who is doing this is buying it online, probably from the same source.  You can buy the HCG from PharamcyEscrow.com, they used to be DrugDelivery.ca.  They said it would take 3-4 weeks for me to receive my HCG, but I got it after a week and a half.  That link takes you to the HCG list, the reason there are so many listed is just the different brands.  Any brand would work, but I heard positive things about Organon and so that is the brand I bought and using.  As for the amount of HCG to buy, that depends how many injections you're going to use and the strength of the HCG (125iu, 175iu, etc), which I'll cover in another blog post (mixing).

If you decide to buy your HCG from PharamcyEscrow.com, which I highly recommend, I have a coupon code you can use to save some money.  When placing your order enter 130454 for the discount.

Today's menu was pretty standard, apple for breakfast, chicken and radishes for lunch and dinner.

Day 13 - Calories & Vitamins

Today's weight: 237.00 lbs

One of the biggest questions I had when doing my research about the HCG diet was the lack of calories and vitamins.  When you hear about the VLCD (Very Low Calorie Diet) the first thing to mind is how can the body function properly with only 500 calories a day?  And what about vitamins?  How does your body get all the nutrients it needs if you're eating so little?

The calorie question is easily answered because it is the reason you lose weight while on the HCG diet.  Basically, you intake only 500 calories while your body needs (on average) 2,000-2,500 calories a day.  When you cut out 2,000 calories, your body goes to your fat reserves to get more.  One pound of fat equals 3,500 calories!  Average results on the HCG diet is one pound lost everyday.  Total with your 500 calories eaten and the 3,500 calories from the fat and you're getting a total of 4,000 calories a day.  On a personal note, I haven't felt tired since being on the diet.

The vitamin question took a bit more effort on my part to find a real answer.  There are vitamins that are stored in your body fat, enough to last about a month.  Don't forget you are still eating two fruits, two veggies, and two meats a day.  The vitamins you receive from eating, along with the fat you are burning, is enough to keep you healthy.  This VLCD is a temporary diet to lose a lot of weight in a very short time span, it is not an ongoing diet or a permanent diet.  I can tell you personally that I haven't had any negative side effects from being on the HCG diet yet.

Personally, I don't worry about calories and vitamins too much.  I'm doing this to lose weight, it works, and it is temporary.

As for today's menu, I did another apple day because of the low weight loss I had today.  I'll hope tomorrow's weigh in is nicer than today's was.

March 12, 2010

Day 12 - Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid

Today's weight: 237.4

Well, yesterday's "apple day" was a huge success with a big 4.6 lbs drop.  However, looking at the chart, I was 237.6 lbs on Day 7, before I cheated.  If I had not cheated and kept with the trend of losing about 1.5 lbs a day, I would currently be 230 lbs!

A quick note - I don't take any other pills/supplements/vitamins while on the HCG diet except for the following:

You've probably never heard of Acetyl-L-Carnitine and Alpha Lipoic Acid.  I've never heard of them either until a couple of years ago when I was building a daily vitamin list.  So here is both in a nutshell:

Acetyl-L-Carnitine:

One of the key uses of Acetyl L-Carnitine supplement is for fatty acid oxidation - helping users burn unwanted body fat. Fatty acids are one the key energy sources the body uses, and oxidation is the process by which they're broken down to create energy. The fatty acids cannot penetrate the inner mitochondia membrane (where they are burned for energy), and the key role for L-Carnitine is to transport fatty acids accross the mitochondra membrane to allow for oxidation of the fats.

It is present in many of the foods we eat, such as meats, vegetables, and grains, for example, beef has about 145mg of l-carnitine per every 100 grams.

Benefits of Acetyl-L-Carnitine:
  • Plays an important role in energy production
  • It helps in weightloss and as a fat burner
  • It transports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondra to metablize to generate energy
  • Enhance cellular energy in the brain
  • Improve mental performance
  • Helps slow the effects of aging
  • Decerases symptoms of depression
  • Helps prevent cataracts
  • Used to support all bodily functions that have a high energy demand

Alpha Lipoic Acid:

Alpha lipoic acid is a fatty acid found naturally inside every cell in the body.  It's needed by the body to produce the energy for our body's normal functions. Alpha lipoic acid converts glucose (blood sugar) into energy.

Alpha lipoic acid is also an antioxidant, a substance that neutralizes potentially harmful chemicals called free radicals. What makes alpha lipoic acid unique is that it functions in water and fat, unlike the more common antioxidants vitamins C and E, and it appears to be able to recycle antioxidants such as vitamin C and glutathione after they have been used up.

Benefits of Alpha Lipoic Acid:
  • Alpha lipoic acid helps make vitamin C and E work better
  • ALA is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals
  • It's easily absorbed either from food eaten or from supplements
  • Alpha lipoic acid helps increase glutathione which helps with detoxification
  • It helps protect the lens and retina of your eyes from degeneration, and also helps alleviate glaucoma
  • Alpha lipoic acid is used to treat and detox the liver

I am mentioning them because they're both found in a tablet which you can buy at GNC.  A bottle has 60 tablets and is roughly $20, it includes 500mg of Acetyl-L-Carnitine and 200mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid.  I take these while on the HCG diet because together they do amazing things.  Most importantly, it helps oxidizes fat which helps burn it faster.  It also helps with energy, does some detox, and even lowers blood sugar.

So there you have it.  I recommend taking these because I think they provide a huge benefit for a very low cost ($20 a month = $0.66 a day).  I will probably be taking these the rest of my life along with the rest of my multi-vitamins I take daily.  All I can say is that right now, while taking these, I'm seeing results.  I know it isn't hurting my weight loss and it is entirely possible that it is helping.
